Overview
Liam O’Flaherty’s short story set in war-torn Dublin, “The Sniper,” was first published in 1923
. It appeared in a London socialist publication, The New Leader, and its literary value was soon recognized by an influential editor, Edward Garnett. The tale of two snipers facing each other across a Dublin street launched O’Flaherty’s long career as a writer.
