Overview

“Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” is a short story written by English author Rudyard Kipling. It is part of The Jungle Book, a collection of short stories about animals (and some people) that live in an Indian forest. The stories were originally published in magazines in 1893 before being collected in a volume the following year. “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi,” the fifth text in the collection, tells the story of a courageous Indian grey mongoose named Rikki-tikki-tavi and his battle against a pair of bloodthirsty snakes.
