Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins is the second prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy. It was published in March 2025, five years after Collins’s first prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The novel became an instant bestseller and sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide in its first week, making it the biggest debut for any book in the Hunger Games series. The prequel is set twenty-four years prior to the original trilogy and follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy as he is forced to compete in a special fiftieth Hunger Games with double the amount of tributes. The story places a thematic emphasis on rebellion, the power of propaganda, the pursuit of justice, and the enduring power of love and friendship. The novel will be adapted by Lionsgate, with the film set to be released in November 2026.
