Overview

American author Neal Shusterman’s dystopian young adult novel Scythe is the first in the Arc of a Scythe series. It chronicles the apprenticeships of teenagers Citra and Rowan as they train to kill people in a world without natural death. Their journey to become professional scythes who glean unfortunate souls in a futuristic America forces them to see that their utopia may not be as perfect as it seems as they grapple with complex issues involving life, death, and human nature. The novel was received with critical acclaim when released in 2016, and a film adaptation is in the works.
