Overview

The Light in the Forest, published in 1953, is an historical novel by Conrad Richter. It tells the story of True Son, a white boy who was kidnapped and raised by Native Americans but is forced to return to his family as a young teenager. The novel is set in the 1760s and explores themes of identity, belonging, and the impact of violence and trauma on individuals and communities. The Light in the Forest was adapted into a Walt Disney film of the same name in 1958.
