Overview

Klara and the Sun was written by Nobel prize-winner Kazuo Ishiguro and published in March of 2021. The dystopian sci-fi novel takes place in a futuristic, technologically advanced United States, and tells the story of Klara, a highly intelligent Artificial Friend robot who is bought by a teenage girl with chronic illness. Themes that define the work include the complexity of love and grief, the differences (and similarities) between humans and artificial intelligence, and the ethical questions surrounding genetic enhancement. Klara and the Sun was longlisted for the 2021 Booker Prize, and is a New York Times bestseller.
