We will have to go to great lengths. We cannot go on as usual. We cannot pivot [to] the center. We cannot be moderate. We will have to be willing to stand up and say no with our combined spirits, our collective intellects, and our many bodies.

The final sentence from the final speech in the book (in Section Ten) summarizes Davis’s message. Emphasizing the importance of collective action with the pronoun “we,” she argues that true change will require unrelenting and continuous work. She urges her audience to reject the status quo. She asserts that neither compromise nor moderation will generate the change necessary to combat the discrimination and injustice that the book outlines. When the many come together in spirit, mind, and body, though, they can make themselves heard, creating a movement that may wrest freedom and equality for the many from the hands of the few.
