Overview

Napoleonic Europe (1799-1815) is guide Number 9 of the 16 SparkNotes guides for studying European History. It describes the tumultuous period at the start of the 19th century during which Napoleon Bonaparte took control of revolution-racked France and quickly turned it into a military powerhouse that dominated much of Europe until opposition led by Britain finally succeeded in removing Napolean from power. This study guide is preceded by our guide for The French Revolution (1789–1799) and followed by our Europe from 1815 to 1848 guide.
