First Lines of Classic Novels As Tumblr Posts

Start the slide show

There’s something about quoting famous lines that gives you a sparkling aura of intellectuality and learnedness. It’s why Pudge’s memorizing of dying words in  Looking for Alaska  wasn’t as macabre as it could’ve been, and it’s why Lorelai Gilmore tried reading  Swann’s Way  in order to be able to start a sentence with  “as Proust would say.” (And to impress Max Medina, of course.) Memorizing quotes gives you the highbrow air that neither glasses nor turtlenecks can give you entirely.

Ah, is there anything at all capable of destroying the cerebral nature of quoting Proust?

Tumblr, perhaps.
