Overview

Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” was published in 1981 as part of a short story collection of the same name. It follows  a conversation among two couples, delving into the complexities of human relationships and the ways in which people communicate—or fail to communicate—with one another. As they share anecdotes and opinions over a bottle of gin, the narrative explores the multifaceted nature of love, ranging from romantic idealism to darker, more complicated emotions.
