Overview

The Poisonwood Bible, published in 1998 by American author Barbara Kingsolver, is a novel that follows the Price family as they embark on a mission trip to the Belgian Congo (now called the Democratic Republic of the Congo) in 1959. Led by the zealous and stubborn Nathan Price, the family grapples with cultural clashes, political turmoil, and personal crises. Narrated by the Price daughters and their mother, the novel explores the impact of Western cultural arrogance, the complexities of faith, and the consequences of colonialism.
