Overview
Nectar in a Sieve, published in 1954, is a novel by Indian author Kamala Markandaya
. The novel tells the story of Rukmani, a young woman who is married off at the age of twelve to a tenant farmer in rural India. Over the course of her life, Rukmani faces numerous hardships, including famine and poverty. Through it all, however, she remains resilient and determined to survive.
