Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, published in 1893, is a ground-breaking novella by American author Stephen Crane. It tells the story of Maggie Johnson, a young girl growing up in the slums of New York City, as she falls victim to societal vices and familial neglect. Crane wrote Maggie: A Girl of the Streets while living in New York City. It was one of the first American novels to depict urban poverty and the lives of working-class women.
