Overview

Herzog is a 1964 novel by Saul Bellow that tells the story of Moses E. Herzog, a middle-aged Jewish man living in Chicago who is in the midst of a personal crisis. The novel is written in the form of a series of letters and diary entries that Herzog writes to various people, some who from his real life and some who are famous figures he has never met, as he attempts to make sense of his life and the world around him. Herzog won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1965.
