The Chosen, published in 1967 by American author Chaim Potok, is a novel about two Jewish boys, Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, who form an unlikely friendship in 1940s Brooklyn
. The novel explores themes of religious identity, the power of friendship, and the conflict between tradition and modernity. Potok, a rabbi and scholar of Jewish history, drew on his own experiences growing up in a Orthodox household in New York City to write The Chosen.
